With the come back of straight razors we have a new battle going on which is between safety and straight razors. both of them come with their own sets of pros and cons, in this article we are going to discuss both of them without any pinch of biasedness though the choice depends on the needs and the nature of the person using the razor, both straight and safety razors are good at their own places.
I don’t think there is anyone who has not come across straight and safety razors even once as both of them got popular in the last centuries.
Straight Razors, the name itself tells about what it looks like, a long blade which is of course straight attached n a handle now some come with wood handle and some with plastic straight razors are famous with the name “cutthroat” or “barber’s Razor”
Straight razors are the first one to step in the world of shaving and later came safety razors, straight razors can also be identified as a knife as they somewhat look similar.
Pros of Straight razors
The best thing about straight razors is that they last long which simply means you have to invest just once though like the every other machine they need to be maintained like re-sharpening the blade every eighth month and it gives you one of the best shaves that’s the reason barbers still use them and the reason behind their comeback.
Now shaving with straight razors need patience, practice, and experience. if you are new with straight razors then you must be ready to have some cuts.
If anyhow it gets damaged it needs to be replaced there is no other way.
coming to maintaining it, if you don’t have the skills you can’t re-sharpen it and it needs to be reshaped every 8th month and this process takes a lot of time.

- Thiers-Issard6/8″ Straight Razor
The name itself tells you its benefit, its safe to use, you don’t need the same amount of practice that you need with straight razors and replacing the blades is damn too easy, in some cases it’s cheaper too, good for men who are always in a hurry.
The only con that I see is that you need to keep buying blades as one lasts only for 3-4 shaves whereas straight razors are like a one-time investment and straight razors even give a better shave than safety razors.
The ones who love grooming themselves and are patient must go for Straight razors and the ones who are impatient and always in a hurry must go for safety razors. now the choice depends totally on you, you can try both of these there is no harm in trying after trying you can actually be sure about which one is the one for you and you will get to know the difference in the shave results as well.
